Emily J. White papers, 2001-2003.

Collection comprises an autobiography, "Emily's Story," and a scrapbook of scanned photographs, "Emily's Album." White recounts the her history to age 22, with particular attention to the period during which she was a Duke undergraduate in the Woman's College, 1946-1950. She comments on her classes and extracurricular activities, especially her major in music education and her participation in music events, along with Triple Trio, and the Women's Glee Club. White provides a chapter on campus regulations and restrictions for women; as well as a list of personal memories of that time, including, "The slowly developing, subliminal message that if you were a Duke woman you should serve someone, somewhere, somehow as long as you lived." There is also a section of biographical notes for those mentioned in the history; a chapter on the U.S. Coast Guard Station in Elizabeth City, N.C.; as well as information on the Bell and White families in Pasquotank County, N.C. All photographs in the album are captioned.
